Clinics at Sarasota County Health Department are geared toward specific groups of people.  These clinics and the services they offer are listed below.  Occasionally, health care professionals in our clinics may order laboratory tests; these can often be performed on-site.

 

Healthcare professionals working in the clinics include licensed physicians and advanced registered nurse practitioners (ARNPs) as well as other medical professionals.

Adult Health

Non-emergency medical care for eligible men and women between ages 18-54.  Choose this clinic if you need:

  • Treatment for an illness

  • A physical (including for immigration)

  • Immunizations (shots/vaccinations)

  • Travel immunizations (if you are going abroad)

  • Refugee screening

  • Referrals to specialists

  • Sterilization (tubal ligation and vasectomy)

Seniors (adults 50 and over) are served by the Senior Friendship Centers.  Call (941) 556-3220 in Sarasota or (941) 548-0100 in North Port.

 


 

Women's Health

Health services specifically for women:

  • PAP smears and pelvic exams

  • Minor gynecological services

  • Confidential tests and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)

  • Screenings for cervical and breast cancer

  • Be Smart Program (mammograms for women aged 40-49 in South County)

  • Education & counseling supporting a healthy lifestyle

  • Birth control

  • Family planning

  • Sterilization (tubal ligation - vasectomy available for men)

 

Health services for pregnant women and mothers:

  • Confidential pregnancy testing

  • Prenatal (before birth) care

  • Postpartum (after birth) care

  • High-risk pregnancy care

  • Circumcisions for newborn boys

  • Healthy Start education & counseling program

  • WIC (Women, Infants & Children) nutrition program

  • KidCare insurance programs

  • Board-certified obstetricians & gynecologists

Children's Health

The Children's Care Clinic provides health services for infants and children under age 18.  These include:

  • Treatment for sick children

  • Physicals (physical examinations)

  • Childhood immunizations (shots/vaccinations)

  • Referrals to specialists

Teen Health

Services include:

  • Contraceptive (birth control) counseling

  • Pregnancy testing and counseling

  • Confidential STD (sexually transmitted disease) tests and counseling

  • Nutrition counseling

Family Planning

 

SCHD's family planning services include pregnancy testing and counseling, birth control options for men and women, HIV and sexually transmitted disease (STD) testing and treatment, pre-pregnancy counseling and planning, emergency contraception, teenage counseling. Male and Female sterilization services are available.

Dental Care

Dental treatment is available for children and adults including examinations and cleanings, fillings, extractions, sealants, complete and partial dentures, and root canals on front teeth.  Emergency treatment for pain is also available.
