The Sarasota County Health Department offers a variety of educational and counseling programs.

 

 

Healthy Start

Healthy Start is a program that screens pregnant women and newborn babies to identify risk factors for low birth weight and infant mortality. Healthy Start is free and available to everyone regardless of income. A team of nurses, social workers, and peer counselors assist families in determining their needs and provide counseling, parenting support, childbirth and breastfeeding education, and smoking cessation services. Classes are in English and Spanish. No appointment is needed.

Other

 

HIV/AIDS

HIV/AIDS education is available through the Health Department HIV/AIDS Prevention & Training Office.  Prevention education and a speakers bureau are available, as well as courses required for various certifications, like HIV-104, HIV-500, and HIV-501.
