Academic Health Department
Sarasota County Health Department offers a
unique learning environment for students from a broad range of academic
disciplines. As an academic health department, SCHD fosters unique
linkages that result in significant benefits not only for the health
department and universities, but also for students, faculty, health
department employees, and the community as a whole.
Students can gain from a range of
experiences, including:

Small-sample and population research opportunities, including risk
identification, social marketing, and intervention evaluation.

Interdisciplinary, cooperative training opportunities for public health,
medical, and nursing students to explore practice issues in a field
setting.

Development: From community to legislative proposal and policy
formulation, opportunities to interact with county government and
community leaders to work for change.
