Academic Health Department

Sarasota County Health Department offers a unique learning environment for students from a broad range of academic disciplines. As an academic health department, SCHD fosters unique linkages that result in significant benefits not only for the health department and universities, but also for students, faculty, health department employees, and the community as a whole. 

 

Students can gain from a range of experiences, including:

 

Research: Small-sample and population research opportunities, including risk identification, social marketing, and intervention evaluation.

 

Training: Interdisciplinary, cooperative training opportunities for public health, medical, and nursing students to explore practice issues in a field setting.

 

Policy Development: From community to legislative proposal and policy formulation, opportunities to interact with county government and community leaders to work for change.

 

Service Learning: Connecting research and learning with the greater good.

 


 

Internship Opportunities

Undergraduate and graduate students can take advantage of internship opportunities with a variety of Health Department divisions or projects. Click on the links below to learn more about each area.

                                   

Internship Areas at SCHD

Clinical Health, CHIP (a Community-Based Participatory Research organization), Disaster Planning, Environmental Health, Epidemiology/Communicable Disease Control, Health Promotions, Human Services, Mosquito Management, Women’s Health, and WIC.

 


 

How do I apply for an internship?

Students interested in an internship with SCHD should complete the Intern Interest/Inquiry Form [54KB DOC]. This form can be submitted by email, fax or US mail to:
