Public Health Response Team 
 

During a disease outbreak, the county epidemiologist Scott Pritchard, M.P.H. works closely with the medical executive director William C. Heymann, M.D., F.A.C.E.P. and other Public Health Response Team members.

Scott Pritchard, MPH is the County Epidemiologist. He received his Masters in Public Health from Yale University and his Bachelors Degree from Stetson University. Scott has served as the Sarasota County Epidemiologist for four years. During this time Scott has coordinated public health surveillance activities and data analysis, led outbreak investigations, conducted numerous community presentations on public health threats, improved local preparedness for infectious disease disasters, and closely worked with community partners to improve the health of the residents of Sarasota County. Scott also serves as an adjunct instructor of microbiology at State College of Florida (formerly MCC). Scott works with all divisions of the health department to describe the patterns and distribution of disease in Sarasota County in order to provide valuable information to drive public health policies and practice.

 
 
 
Dr. Heymann
William C. Heymann, M.D., F.A.C.E.P.
Medical Executive Director, Sarasota County Health Department

William Heymann, M.D., F.A.C.E.P. is the Medical Executive Director. He received his medical degree from Medical College of Ohio. Dr. Heymann has extensive training and experience in family and community medicine, and is experienced in medical disaster management. He is board certified in internal medicine and a diplomate in tropical medicine and hygiene. Dr. Heymann has served as Chairman of Critical Care at Cedars Medical Center in Miami, where he practiced as a critical care and emergency physician. Additionally, he was on the teaching staff at University of Miami, V.A. Medical Center and is currently clinical assistant professor at the Florida State University College of Medicine, Sarasota Campus. As the Sarasota County Health Department’s Medical Executive Director, Dr. Heymann supervises the Sarasota County Health Department’s staff physicians, dental clinics, pharmacy and medical laboratories. He also works closely with community agencies, health care providers and others in addressing health care issues.
