Sarasota County Health Department offers
several types of screenings and tests. Follow-up laboratory tests may be
ordered, many of which can be performed on-site.
Certain screenings and tests are also
offered by our mobile medical unit, Health
in Motion.
Cancer
Cervical and breast cancer screenings are
available for women.

Be Smart Program (Mammograms)
Be Smart Program is for women age 40
through 49. This program provides an annual mammogram screening, breast
health education, and follow-up care for those who qualify. Be Smart is
funded by local grants from the Gulf Coast Community Foundation of
Venice and The Susan G. Komen Cancer Foundation, Florida Suncoast
Affiliate. Mammograms save lives!
Be Smart is available at SCHD's
South County Family
Health Center.

HIV/AIDS

Anonymous and confidential testing for
HIV/AIDS is free and available to anyone. (A $20 donation is requested
but not required to receive testing). English and Spanish are spoken at
these clinics. Counseling for follow-up treatment is available.

Pregnancy testing
Pregnancy testing and counseling are
available in the women's health unit on a walk-in and appointment basis.

for mothers and pregnant women.
Sexually
Transmitted Diseases (STD)
SCHD conducts sexually transmitted disease
(STD)clinics at both the Sarasota
and Venice branches. Persons 13 years
and older can be tested for syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, and HIV.
Other STD testing is performed as needed. All test results are
confidential. Fees are based on a sliding scale according to income;
however, service is not denied because of inability to pay.
