Clinics
The Health Department's various
clinics provide health care services for the diverse residents of our county.
Each clinic is geared toward a specific group of people. Clinics
include:

SCHD Clinics are not for all people. Seniors (those 55 and over) should contact the
Senior
Friendship Center for health care services.
Health & Human Services

Be Smart Program (Mammograms)
This program, administered at SCHD's
South County Family
Health Center for women age 40-49, provides an annual mammogram
screening, breast health education, and follow-up care for those who
qualify.

Education & Counseling services
Education & Counseling services are
available for the public and for health care professionals and service
providers. A variety of classes is available at SCHD, most of
which are free.

Healthy Start
Healthy Start is a screening and education
program for pregnant women and new mothers. Classes are free and
cover parenting, childbirth, breastfeeding, and much more.

Free, confidential HIV tests and
counseling for follow-up treatment are available.

Uninsured Health Care
The
South County Community Clinic
is dedicated to providing specialty care health services to uninsured,
low-income residents of South Sarasota County to positively impact their
health and quality of life. The clinic is staffed by local volunteer
physicians, nurses, medical staff, and clerical support staff. This
program serves South Sarasota County residents aged 19-64 who have a
family income below 150% of the federal poverty level.

Environmental Health Services
Environmental Health Services covers a
variety of areas, including biomedical waste & needle disposal,
inspections & licensing of public places & resources, response to
reports of nuisances & public health problems, septic systems & wells,
and public water systems.

The office of Health Promotion & Planning works to
increase knowledge and awareness of health concerns in the community,

SCHD provides school nurses to public
schools to screen students for health problems and to promote health
education.

Vital Records (Birth & Death Certificates)
SCHD provides vital records, such as birth
and death certificates. To obtain a certified copy of a birth or
death certificate, you must complete a short order form and show a valid
ID (like a Driver's License). The cost for birth certificates is $15 for the first
certificate and $5 for each additional certificate purchased at the same
time. The cost for death certificates is $9 for each certificate.
