Environmental Health Services include the following:

  • Biomedical Waste Disposal / Needle Disposal
  • Body Piercing & Tattooing
  • Doggie Dining
    Permits & inspections for restaurants allowing dogs in their outdoor seating areas
  • Food Borne Illness (Food Poisoning)
    Trained specialists work to reduce the risk of food and waterborne disease throughout the State of Florida. Activities include ongoing monitoring, investigation of outbreaks, reporting of disease and public education.  
  • Health Concerns & Nuisances
    Environmental Health responds to reports of concerns and nuisances
  • Indoor Air Quality
  • Inspections & Licenses
       Businesses: child care & group care facilities, schools, public pools, etc
       Public resources: water supplies, beaches, etc
  • Lead
    Environmental Health participates in a statewide program aimed at protecting the health and cognitive development of children and adults by preventing exposure to lead in paint and other substances in the environment.
  • Mosquito Management
  • PACE (Protocol for Assessing Community Excellence in Environmental Health)
    Collectively, the county health departments across Florida who have implemented PACE EH in communities have become a national model for identifying urban planning issues as environmental health issues.
  • Radon Testing
    Trained specialists serve as a technical resource to the public on the health effects of radon.

    Environmental Health Services oversees the permitting, construction, operation, and modification of wells in Sarasota County and assists in complaints.
