Internships:  Academic Health Department

SCHD is an academic health department.  It offers a unique learning environment, via internships, for students from a broad range of academic disciplines. To accomplish this, SCHD fosters unique linkages resulting in significant benefits not only for the health department and its partner universities, but also for students, faculty, health department employees, and the community as a whole.

Students can gain from a range of experiences, including:

  • Research: Small-sample and population research opportunities, including risk identification, social marketing, and intervention evaluation.
  • Training: Interdisciplinary, cooperative training opportunities for public health, medical, and nursing students to explore practice issues in a field setting.
  • Policy Development: From community to legislative proposal and policy formulation, opportunities to interact with county government and community leaders to work for change.
  • Service Learning: Connecting research and learning with the greater good.

Internship Opportunities

Undergraduate and graduate students seeking an intern experience for academic credits can take advantage of internship opportunities with a variety of Health Department divisions or projects. Click on the links below to learn more about each area.
